Project Overview
A bilingual archival site tracing a noble line through eleven dated records, every claim tied to a published source.
What We Built
A single scrolling page in Russian and English, built as a static Vite site with GSAP ScrollTrigger and Lenis rather than a CMS. The arms draw themselves stroke by stroke; the family tree grows on scroll and dims to 13% when you trace one figure's path back to the root; a pinned chronicle scrubs the 1490–1710 baseline sideways with markers on true years. Where the record is silent the site says so — the unconnected clusters hang off a trunk that is the surname rather than a person, on limbs drawn pale and labelled «связь не документирована».
The Challenge We Solved
A family history assembled from pre-1917 Russian sources is difficult to present honestly. The published record covers eleven dated entries between 1503 and 1696 and nine named people, but no source connects the three clusters of names to one another. Most genealogy sites paper over that kind of gap with a tidy tree that quietly invents the links.
